China-EU green energy collaboration gets stronger
From solar and wind technology to battery systems and electric transportation, China’s capabilities in green energy are increasingly central to the shared effort in tackling climate change and promoting sustainable development.
China’s growing presence in Europe’s clean energy sector is evident across multiple areas, playing a key role in supporting the region’s ecological transition. In countries like Portugal, the collaboration has become particularly prominent in the fields of solar energy and lithium battery innovation.
According to reports, Pedro Amaral Jorge, CEO of the Portuguese Renewable Energy Association, noted that Chinese-manufactured solar panels now make up approximately 85 percent of the domestic market, all meeting top international certification standards. He emphasized that reaching Portugal’s target of 22 gigawatts of installed solar capacity by 2030 "requires closer cooperation with China," and highlighted China’s essential contribution to achieving the European Union’s wider 2030 energy and climate objectives.
